For this project we had to create five separate 3D models, it came from the same series as the pawn chess piece. The 3D models had to reflect something that exists, or that could exist in real life.
PROCESS
I started thinking about the work I could do with the tools we had learned so far and thought about relevant items. I've always loved board games and wanted to dip my hand into some more classic-style games, so I thought that a set of dice could be fun.
I started with a cube and softened up the edges with the bevel tool. I then used a text tool to create the six numbers and extruded them. Once that was done I was able to rotate and warp them to the dice faces as needed and inset them so it looked as if they were carved out of the dice themselves. I then added some colour and lights as well as a surface to sit on to add more depth and shadow to the piece but it still felt lacking. I ended up finding a simple swirl pattern that I overlayed onto the colour to give it a more intricate feel.
